Gearhead Curios is a 1939 Texaco station that was built from native stone. The old station was on Route 66 until June 1st 1963 when a new alignment put the station one block off of Route 66. This station serviced travelers up through the 1980s. A series of odd things for the next 10ish years, then it sat as storage for the next 15 or so years. In Oct 2018 the old building was purchased by the Perry family & became Gearhead Curios, renovations began. As renovation continued it became more of a travel destination. An American Flag made from 169 Kansas license plates known as the Tag Flag greeted travelers in May 2020, the addition of a 1951 Hudson, a tribute to the character Doc joined Gearhead Curios in Aug 2020. Vintage pumps & neon were installed in 2021. In 2022 Gearhead Curios opened full time while renovations were still being competed. June 2023 saw the official ribbon cutting. The inside is full of unique memories & boasts the most photographed restroom on Route 66.
