One of the architects involved with the design of this low-cost housing complex, the first in New England, was Eleanor Manning O'Connor, my great-great aunt. She was the first woman to graduate from MIT's school of Architecture in 1906. She became a leader in the field of public housing and urban planning. The picture of Old Harbor Village, constructed in 1936-1938, shows that the 3-story buildings have plenty of green space and landscaping, helping to make this "public housing project" a warm welcoming place.
