Elizabeth B. Patton first came to Nevada, Iowa in 1868 with her husband Dr. Andrew Patton. Originally from Cincinnati the couple had made a comfortable amount of money operating pharmacys, and decided to move west to Iowa.The couple settled in Jasper county. In 1863 The doctor volunteered to serve as an assistant surgeon in the army and Elizabeth went with. For two years the couple served as medical staff for the 60th colored infantry, and were stationed with them when the regiment fought in Arkansas. After the war the couple moved to Nevada to and purchased property for a hose and a business. elizabeth ran their properties and also was renowned for her gardens. Which featured plants from exotic lands, like South America, Australia, and the tropics. Elizabeth helped shape the young town by forming civic clubs, forming city parks, and hosting social gatherings. Although never having children themselves Elizabeth was considered by many to be family. Elizabeth passed away May 23rd 1895
