Originally called the Parish Aid Society, later the “Women of St. John’s,” this group of women, through their organizational skills, dedication, and fund-raising programs, helped pay off parish debts at St. John's Episcopal Cathedral, fund church building & repair projects, and sponsored significant outreach program to less fortunate residents of Denver, over a period of some 145 years. In an era when women were not allowed to be priests, deacons, acolytes, or vestry members until well into the 1970’s and later, these remarkable women leaders ensured the vitality and future of this still-thriving Episcopal Parish near downtown Denver.
