This 1894 Queen Anne-style home was built for Anton Gag and his family. Although he too was an artist, the house is now named for his daughter, Wanda Hazel Gag, who is remembered and renowned as a children’s book author and illustrator. Wanda Gag wrote the children’s book Millions of Cats, published in 1928, which won the prestigious Newbery Award. Wanda wrote and also did the illustrations for include A B C Bunny, The Funny Thing, Gone is Gone, Snippy and Snappy, Nothing at All, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, and Millions of Cats. Wanda was the eldest of seven children born to Anton and Elizabeth “Lissi” (Biebl) Gag. All the children grew up with the influence of their parents’ Bohemian heritage and a love for all of the arts: music, theater, dance, as well as drawing and painting.
