In 1925, Sidney Casey heard of a 'brand new highway' coming through Spencer MO. He walked 55 miles to get to Spencer to purchase 2 acres of property and an old wooden general store for $500. He build the 'new' brick General Store in 1926, the gas station and garage in 1927 and the Cafe / Barber Shop in 1928. He ran is successfully until Route 66 was bypassed in 1961, in which Sidney closed do doors for good.In 2007, the Ryans purchased it from Sidney's grandson Kent (Kent was the third generation of Casey to own it from 1925 until 2007). The Ryan's put a new roof on several of the buildings, added the canopies and gas pump island with vintage Phillip 66 gas pumps. But they never really opened it to the public as it was more of 'their place'.In 2022, Ed Klein of Route 66 World purchased the buildings from the Ryans and is working on a full restoration to bring the buildings back to how they were in the 30s and 40s. The buildings are open for visitors most weekend.
