Throughout her lifetime Helene V. B. Wurlitzer (1874-1963) developed and funded several humanitarian programs ranging from music education, radio programs, academic scholarship programs, medical research and other philanthropic endeavors. In her later years Helene became a patroness to dozens of visual, literary, and musical artists in and around Taos. In 1954 she established an artist residency program, her legacy, The Helene Wurlitzer Foundation of New Mexico (HWF)( wurlitzerfoundation.org). The HWF continues to provide visual, literary, and musical artists from all over the world with artist residency grants, providing them with the gift of time and space in a serene setting to pursue their creative endeavors. For nearly 70 years, Helene's legacy continues to successfully support art.
