The Hoffelt Drug Store in Estelline was run by Eva Lohr Hoffelt and her husband Edward. It was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 2008. Eva Hoffelt's father had been a druggist with Lohr & Lohr in Estelline and had trained her husband. In 1915, Eva took courses in Minneapolis and passed the S.D. State Board of Pharmacy examination that April to become a registered pharmacist. Eva Hoffelt passed away in 1955. Her daughter May Viola ultimately went into optometry and, with her husband, ran the Hoffelt-Paranteau Eye Clinic in Estelline until May’s death in 1977.
